When the fork happened, I really thought there'd be a resurgence of the only CMS I've ever loved. :) I'm not a coder, but as with Textpattern, I'd love to find a place to help, and I bet I can if there's a clear roadmap and a little momentum.

BTW, to the developers who are putting so many countless hours into this project, they're greatly appreciated.
Re: Admin Sneak Peak

Hi Tom,

that clears up quite a lot. No IE6 does make life somewhat easier – now if only that IE 8.1 announcement hadn't been an April fool...

I understand the images now and that makes sense. I just jumped to the wrong conclusion. I use JM's picker too to assign images. Image uploading is via the image tab as with txp?

Regarding the datestamp: it doesn't necessarily have to display in the date format used by different languages, I was just concerned that if it was based only on user text input some parts of the world will consistently input it wrongly. If using the datepicker gets it right, one quickly gets used to using the datepicker so I don't think that's the problem.

Re: Admin Sneak Peak

Hello all,

Just wanted to clear up a few things - and answer some questions.

In the "attached media" portion of the mockup - the thumbnails are previews of the images that are attached to the article.
If you haven't attached any images - then nothing will show there. I always find it frustrating to add 15 images to an article and only have the image ID by which to verify or sort them. Maybe I need to make it more clear that these are just previews.

The "Add Media" links will launch a full featured media picker - similar to JM's image picker - but with the ability to insert/attach a variety of media. I'm working on a visual of how that will look now...screenshots soon.

Jakob

Thanks for the kind words and the feedback.

• Exanding/Collapsing: just about everything can be set to open/closed by default.
That way you can customize the initial view of the admin to fit your workflow.
I don't have all the details about how/where yet.

• Timestamp: There will be a date picker.
I'm not sure how the code will work for different languages, but Manfre and Eric will figure that out.

• Branding: There will now be a pref to show/hide "Sitename" next to the logo.
For more wholesale branding you can simply replace the xpat logo.

• HTML Mockup status: We haven't built the HTML mockup yet - but I've successfully implemented most of the ideas in the mockup on other sites - so I'm fairly confident we'll be able to create a live version that looks just like this. There will be no support for IE 6 - so that will help. It's time to pull the plug on that browser.

As for the middle column being flexible: Currently the design is based on a 960 grid (not the 960.gs code) - so nothing is fluid.
However, this is just the default theme - it would be pretty easy to customize the CSS to make a theme that behaves however you like.

I hope that makes things a bit clearer - comments/suggestions always welcome.

:)

--
Tom

Re: Admin Sneak Peak

Looking good Tom. Clean and nicely structured and I applaud the two-column write pane. So much clearer as one sees immediately where things begin.

Some promising looking additions to the write pane in there too, particularly the attached media and media popper carousel and the re-arranged custom field block (can't wait to see what kind of fields are possible). Lots of good choices too: URL title together with title, expiration date as extra option so a not to complicate things. Also your visual concept of 'vertical blinds' expanding between the lines, whether in the menu, the main section, the side bar lends it consistency. I presume you can make the various open/closed pane states stick as you wish. Also like the clean "I don't promise you the world" textile bar.

I don't know if you're looking for some feedback at this stage or not as things as probably still moving around a bit. If I may make the odd comment:

View Site: would seem more logical to be (pre)view page here with view site by the logo. I presume the next/prev go up here too.

Timestamp: Date entry conventions and separators differ from country to country, even between US and UK (e.g. England DD/MM/YYYY, Germany DD.MM.YYYY). The separate fields are, I agree, visual staccato but clearer in terms of data. A date picker helps here to avoid people putting dates in wrongly (for all I know you have a click-in-field date picker already implemented :-).

Like the carousel idea to flick through images a lot but the implementation you show might get frustrating for sites with lots of images. How about a adding 1 or 2 rows to get a small paged grid that appears so that one can scan in groups of 16 or 24. Something along those lines for files would be good too.

Options for self-branding in the header?

Is this already implemented in code? You have lots of nice UI-stuff in there which I wonder how you implement in code, e.g. rounded corners with drop-shadows, expando-buttons, special form widgets... They look great, but I often have problems getting even simple things like the button to work consistently in different browsers with text or window-width resizing and without excessive extraneous markup. I very much hope the central section can stretch width-wise.
